What a wall assembly includes

Most wall assemblies include a wall mixer tap body, a slide rail and handshower, and a diverter that switches water flow between the handshower and a separate outlet such as a bath spout or overhead rose. Some assemblies also include the bath spout or shower head as part of the set, while others leave those as separate selections.

Wall assemblies are plumbed through the wall, so the supply connections need to be in position before the wall is tiled. Confirming the assembly configuration with a plumber during the rough-in stage avoids the need to cut back into tiles later.

Choosing a wall assembly

The main decision is whether the assembly is for a bath, a shower, or a combined bath-shower setup. For a dedicated shower, the assembly typically includes a slide rail and handshower. For a bath, it connects to a wall spout or deck spout. For a combined setup, the diverter routes water to either the handshower or the bath outlet depending on which is needed.
