How a pot filler tap works

Most pot filler taps use a double-jointed arm that folds flat against the wall when not in use and swings out over the cooktop when needed. A cold-water-only supply is standard, since pot fillers are designed for filling rather than washing. The tap mounts to the wall behind the cooktop at a height that clears the tallest pot you’ll regularly use.

Because the supply line runs through the wall, the plumbing needs to be roughed in before the kitchen splashback is tiled. Like a freestanding bath tap, this is a product to confirm with a plumber during the planning stage rather than retrofit afterward.

Choosing a pot filler

Reach is the main practical specification. The folding arm needs to extend far enough to position the spout over the back burners, which are typically further from the wall than the front ones. Most pot fillers have a total reach between 500mm and 600mm when fully extended.
